Episode 39 - Sam Richardson, Other Half Brewing

Episode 39 - Sam Richardson, Other Half Brewing

Brand new year, brand new show! Actually that's not entirely true. We're still doing pretty much exactly what we've always done: Chatting with brewers over black glasses filled with mysterious, murky liquid.

Today that brewer happens to be Sam Richardson of Brooklyn's Other Half. Never heard of them? We don't believe you... In fact, we bet some of you have even waited in long Saturday morning lines to get their beer, all the while snacking on greasy McFishes and delicious McDoubles. (The brewery is next door to a McDonald's near the Gowanus Canal.) We feel you. We'd wait in those long lines too. We'd eat those McFishes and plow through the McDoubles. But luckily we don't have to. Usually...

Anywho. Tune in right now to hear what Sam the Hops Man has to say about those lines, that McDonald's, and so many other topics. We think you'll really dig it. And be sure to come back next week for the second part, the other half of Other Half, with Sam's partner, Matt Monahan.

Today we're stoked to welcome the owner of one of our favorite beer bars in New York City, Dave Brodrick of the Blind Tiger Ale House in the West Village. We've been going to the Tiger for nearly a decade now (some of us remember it from the original location) and it never ceases to be awesome. That's almost purely a reflection of Dave who's been living the good life up in Vermont for the past five years, opening both the Worthy Kitchen and the Worthy Burger in Woodstock and South Royalton respectively. Dave talks to us about how he got into the bar business in the first place and divulges some transcendental meditation knowledge about how he decided to start The Beanery, a new coffee-focused brewery he runs with some of his business partners out of Smutt Labs in New Hampshire.

Episode 24 - Industry News Show

Episode 24 - Industry News Show

With news of craft beer buyouts and mergers coming in almost weekly now, we decided to weigh in on the issue. (Before you tune in, maybe check out this article from our friend Jeff Alworth as well as this one over on Mitch Steele's blog if you'd like to contextualize our frames of reference in the days leading up to recording this show.) We brought our old friends Aaron Goldfarb (Episode 2) and John Kleinchester (Episode 18) along to weigh in with their takes. It was a lively discussion. We didn't all agree on the meanings of these mergers and buyouts but that's to be expected. We hope you enjoy.
